Due to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) guidelines and the reduced number of regular season football games, Van Wert City Schools will not be able to sell season tickets for the 2020 football season.

Blaine Baxter and his sister Braeley present a $700 donation to shelter manager Tiffany Pereira, while shelter puppy, Mossy Oak, joins in.

Van Wert fourth-grader Blaine Baxter chose an interesting year to become a 4-Her. Despite only having one in-person meeting with the Ohio City Blue Ribbon Workers, Baxter recently completed his project and even raised $700, which he donated to the Van Wert County Humane Society.

Thank you for your patience as we have worked with area superintendents, our district’s administrators, VWFT Association representation, and the Board of Education to put together the guidelines for reopening Van Wert City Schools for the upcoming school year.

The Educational Boards of Van Wert City Schools and Lincolnview Local Schools met in special meetings on Thursday to approve remote learning plans and district calendar changes.

During the 2019-2020 school year, all Ohio schools were closed for the remainder of the school calendar year beginning on March 17, 2020 by order of Governor DeWine and State Health Commissioner Acton in response to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Governor DeWine has released his guidelines on Reset and Restart to School in the fall and we have been planning for the return to school in August.

The 2020 Peony Pageant, originally scheduled for April 3, had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to crown a queen and award scholarships, the contestants will be competing virtually this year and will be scored by a panel of judges.

The Van Wert City Board of Education tackled a packed agenda during Wednesday’s monthly meeting, and one of the first items of business was to present a Veteran’s Diploma to Glenn Morefield, a local veteran was born in Virginia in 1942, but moved to Van Wert County in 1953.
